From audit stress to audit routine: A smart app captures IT assets quickly and without disruption directly at the rack

A functioning IT infrastructure is essential for companies worldwide. Against this backdrop, internal and external IT audits are far more than just a “necessary nuisance.” They play a crucial role in ensuring operational reliability. However, for IT managers, audits usually mean stress. When they are also responsible for distributed IT systems, audits become a double challenge: they must ensure that systems are properly documented and processes are followed—often without having direct physical access to the components. The good news: one major source of stress—the reliable capture of IT assets—can be eliminated with smart technology. And not only locally by on-site IT teams, but also remotely in distributed environments.
Capture automatically instead of documenting manually
The first questions that arise when preparing for an IT audit are: Are our asset data up to date? Do we know the physical location of all components? In many cases, IT teams repeatedly have to carry out inventory checks to verify where which IT components are deployed. This is exactly where DC Vision comes in. The software solution simplifies data capture and maintenance directly at the rack. As soon as IT teams or IT representatives in distributed environments use the DC Vision app on mobile devices on-site, questions about the accuracy and physical location of IT components no longer arise. With the app, teams automatically update stored assets during every IMAC process (Install, Move, Add, Change). Simple, fast, and reliable.
The digital twin is always up to date
All IT systems are initially inventoried using DC Vision and mapped per rack into a dynamic digital twin. For a typical rack system, it takes around ten minutes to capture all components of a fully equipped rack. A prepared unique marker is simply attached to the rack. This is then scanned using a tablet, and the digital twin of the rack can immediately be edited. Images and information for each component are also stored within the digital twin. The real advantage of the DC Vision solution becomes clear during operation: when changes to a rack are required, the work instruction from IT service management is displayed directly in the work order module of the DC Vision app. Once the change has been carried out, the new status is captured again via the mobile device, and both the digital twin and the IT asset management system are updated to reflect the latest state.
Easy handling for remote teams
Especially in distributed environments, IT departments gain flexibility and security. Let’s consider an example: a company operates multiple production sites or smaller branches distributed worldwide. Responsibility for IT components lies centrally with the regional IT manager. For an audit, the racks on-site must be checked. With the introduction of DC Vision, the IT management assigns a responsible person or local IT service provider for each location. When changes are required, the central IT department enters them into the IT service management system; from there, work orders are sent via the DC Vision app. If changes need to be carried out that require supervision by the central IT team, this can be done directly in DC Vision. Crucial for the audit: all changes are documented immediately. The same applies when an issue occurs on-site that needs to be resolved quickly. Through DC Vision, the on-site team has immediate access to the technical documentation of the affected components and can record necessary changes directly.
Stress-free audits—even in distributed IT environments
The Cyber Security Report 2026 by Check Point explicitly highlights that edge devices are often a gateway for cyberattacks. If IT systems cannot be located immediately in an emergency, valuable time is lost. In addition, regular updates can only be performed on correctly documented systems. The conclusion is clear: the more efficiently an audit can be prepared and conducted, the less stress IT departments and IT managers experience. And this reduction in stress is urgently needed, as according to the Global Research Report “Tech Workplace and Culture 2025” by the international association of IT professionals ISACA, 79% of surveyed IT professionals suffer from work-related stress or burnout.
